Wampler has released its latest creation, the Catacombs—a dual-function pedal that combines delay and reverb effects with exceptional flexibility and ease of use. Designed by Brian Wampler to meet the needs of guitarists who want a broad range of effects without unnecessary complexity, Catacombs offers 11 distinct effects controlled by an intuitive interface, eliminating the need for complex menu navigation.
Delay and Reverb Programs
Catacombs provides six delay and five reverb types, allowing guitarists to achieve a diverse range of sounds.
Delay options include:
ANLG – for classic analog tones
BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) – a discrete-time analog delay
TAPE – inspired by classic multi-head tape delays
DIGI – inspired by the TC Electronics 2290 Dynamic Digital Delay
SPC – a mixture of the classic Space Echo, Maestro, and Echoplex
FTE (Faux Tape Echo) – another tape-emulation style delay
On the reverb side, Catacombs features five carefully tuned programs:
HALL – for large ambient soundscapes
PLT (Plate Reverb) – for vintage warmth
SPR (Spring Reverb) – inspired by traditional spring reverb
SHMR (Shimmer Reverb) – adds ethereal layers ideal for ambient effects
ROOM – provides a tight, intimate reverb similar to studio-grade ambiance

Intuitive Controls
Catacombs is designed for ease of use, with classic stompbox-style knobs that eliminate the need for complex menus. Key parameters, including time, feedback, modulation, and level, are easily adjustable, with each knob also offering alternative functions for more detailed adjustments. The master control knob allows quick switching between delay and reverb types, making it easy to customize effects on the fly.
Flexible Signal Routing
The Catacombs pedal offers multiple routing configurations, allowing users to run effects in mono or stereo and switch between parallel and series routing. This flexibility enables tailored sound shaping, from compact and focused delays to expansive, layered ambiances ideal for different musical contexts.
Tap Tempo and MIDI Control
The Wampler Catacombs includes tap tempo functionality, letting users synchronize delay times with their playing. Additionally, the pedal supports full MIDI control, offering access to a wide range of customizable options. The pedal itself holds eight presets, while MIDI expands this capacity to 128 presets.
DAW Plugin Integration
Wampler provides a free software plugin version of Catacombs for registered customers, available in AAX, AU, and VST3 formats for both Mac and PC. This feature allows users to incorporate Catacombs’ effects into a digital audio workstation (DAW), enhancing flexibility in the studio environment.
DSP Engine
Catacombs is powered by a high-performance DSP engine that ensures pristine sound and versatile performance. Users can assign an expression pedal to any parameter for dynamic, real-time control. The DSP architecture is optimized to handle high-fidelity audio with minimal latency, preserving every nuance of precise playing.
Summary
The Wampler Catacombs is a compact and versatile solution, combining a wide range of delay and reverb effects into one easy-to-use pedal. With its flexible routing, simple controls, and DAW integration, it offers both versatility and ease of use.
