New Update for Logic Pro 11

Updated: Jul 24

Apple's latest update to its flagship digital audio workstation, Logic Pro 11, introduces a plethora of innovative features designed to enhance the creativity and efficiency of music producers and audio engineers. From the integration of new Session Players to advanced MIDI routing options, Logic Pro 11 is set to revolutionize the way professionals and enthusiasts alike create music.

Introducing Session Players: Bass and Keyboard

Logic Pro 11 brings the addition of Bass Player and Keyboard Player, joining the existing Drummer to form a trio of virtual Session Players. These AI-powered musicians offer realistic, responsive performances, mimicking the nuanced play styles of human session artists across various genres. Producers can now craft full band arrangements with ease, adjusting performances to fit the vibe of their project seamlessly.

Studio Bass and Studio Piano Plug-ins

Enhancing the authenticity of virtual instruments, the new Studio Bass and Studio Piano plug-ins feature meticulously sampled instruments. The Studio Bass includes six bass models inspired by iconic recordings, complete with detailed control over articulations and dynamics. Similarly, the Studio Piano offers three piano models, enriched with adjustable pedal and key noises, allowing for an incredibly lifelike piano experience.

Global Chord Track

The Global Chord Track simplifies the process of maintaining harmonic consistency within a project. By allowing Session Players and loops to follow set chord progressions, producers can ensure that every element of their track works in musical harmony. This feature is invaluable for achieving professional-sounding mixes and compositions with minimal effort.

Advanced Audio Editing Tools: Stem Splitter and ChromaGlow

Logic Pro 11 introduces the Stem Splitter, a tool designed to dissect a stereo audio file into its constituent stems—vocals, bass, drums, and more. This functionality is perfect for remixing or repurposing segments of existing tracks.

Additionally, the ChromaGlow plug-in offers a variety of saturation models to imbue mixes with anything from subtle warmth to intense vintage vibes.

Enhanced MIDI Capabilities and Dolby Atmos Support

With the new Internal MIDI In feature, routing MIDI between tracks within Logic Pro has never been easier, mirroring the flexibility typically reserved for audio routing. For those working in spatial audio, the enhancements to Dolby Atmos include improved downmix and trim controls, ensuring that mixes translate well across various listening environments.

New Producer Packs and Other Noteworthy Additions

Logic Pro 11 also introduces exciting new Producer Packs from notable artists like The Kount, Corey Wong, and Hardwell, offering unique sounds and loops to inspire producers. Other enhancements include real-time bounce for external instruments, input monitoring for software instrument tracks, and the adoption of WAV as the default recording format, all designed to streamline the production process.

Other Features

Improved Marquee Selection Tools: Users can now easily move, extend, or resize marquee selections with key commands. This update allows for adding or removing tracks directly within the marquee, optimizing workflow within the main window and various editors.

Advanced Force Legato Options: Two new Force Legato key commands have been added to enhance note editing. These commands, accessible through the Key Command Editor, help in seamlessly connecting notes either to subsequent notes or to selected notes, ensuring smooth transitions.

Real-Time Bounce Capabilities: Logic Pro 11 now supports real-time bounce for external instruments and inserts. This means producers can choose to bounce projects in real-time, especially useful when working with plugins that require it, thereby ensuring high fidelity outputs.

Enhanced Input Monitoring: Input monitoring has been expanded to include software instrument tracks, allowing for real-time performance and recording of multiple tracks. This is particularly useful when integrating external MIDI controllers.

WAV as Default Recording Format: The shift to WAV as the default recording format ensures longer, uninterrupted recordings and greater compatibility with a variety of audio products, enhancing Logic Pro's utility in professional settings.
