The upcoming NAMM 2025 is set to showcase a range of innovations in music technology, including Korg’s introduction of the Multi/Poly module. Building on the release of the Multi/Poly keyboard synthesizer, about which we wrote just a few months ago (read here), this new desktop and rack-mountable version offers the same advanced features in a more compact, keyboard-free format.
The Evolution of a Classic
The Korg Multi/Poly draws its inspiration from the legendary Mono/Poly analog synthesizer of 1981. Known for its distinctive four-oscillator architecture and unique sonic capabilities, the Mono/Poly is a cherished classic in the synth community. The Multi/Poly builds upon this foundation, combining cutting-edge digital technology with the character of its vintage predecessor.
With the Multi/Poly module, Korg aims to bring the same advanced synthesis capabilities to a compact, keyboard-less format, making it a versatile tool for modern studios.

Key Features of the Multi/Poly Module
The Multi/Poly module mirrors the functionality of its keyboard counterpart, offering a wealth of features designed to satisfy both vintage enthusiasts and contemporary sound designers.
Synthesis Engine
Polyphony: Up to 60 voices, each with independent settings, ensuring a rich and versatile sound.
Oscillators: Four per program, with options for classic analog-style waveforms, digital modes, and advanced waveshaping.
Filters: Dual-modeled filters inspired by iconic synths, including the MS-20, Minimoog, and the original Mono/Poly, complete with audio-rate modulation capabilities.
Layering and Splits: Four independent timbral layers, allowing for complex layering and split configurations.
Modulation and Sequencing
Layer Rotate: A unique feature that triggers layers in a round-robin style for evolving, dynamic textures.
Motion Sequencing 2.0: Advanced per-voice modulation, enabling intricate parameter animations.
Kaoss Physics: A built-in hardware X/Y touchpad offering real-time control via a physics-based modulation engine.
Effects and Connectivity
Studio-Quality Effects: Each layer supports three effects, complemented by master reverb and parametric EQ.
MIDI 2.0: Full support for MIDI 2.0 property exchange and polyphonic aftertouch, ensuring seamless communication with modern controllers.
I/O Options: Balanced stereo outputs, MIDI in/out, USB connectivity, and an expression pedal input provide flexibility for studio and stage use.
Compact and Studio-Friendly Design
The Multi/Poly module is housed in a sleek 19″ enclosure, suitable for desktop use or installation in a 4U rack. While it retains the extensive control interface of the keyboard model, the module eliminates the need for a built-in keyboard—a move that many users will appreciate.
One minor drawback is the lack of a USB host port, a feature that could simplify connections with standard MIDI keyboards.
The Korg Multi/Poly module is much more than a recreation of the Mono/Poly. It blends analog modeling with modern digital synthesis. With features like Layer Rotate and Kaoss Physics, it stands as a testament to Korg’s ability to innovate while honoring its heritage.
