Knife Drop: Eventide and Third Man Hardware’s New Guitar Effect

Updated: Nov 6

Eventide and Third Man Hardware have teamed up with Jack White to release a new effects pedal, Knife Drop, which combines a monophonic analog synth and sub-octave fuzz in a single, compact unit.

Features & Controls

The pedal features two footswitches: one to activate the effect and another to control the octaves. Three main knobs are multi-functional, allowing control over either Synth, Drive, and Level or, alternatively, Attack, Resonance, and Cutoff. These alternate settings can be accessed using the Alt LED button located at the top right of the pedal.

A notable feature is the Octave LED button, which enables users to toggle between Green (upper octave only), Red (upper and sub-octaves), or Off (Octaves Off). These color-coded visual cues are easy to spot, making it ideal for dark stage environments.

Flexibility

Filtering options allow for pre- or post-distortion routing, and the envelope attack filter is adjustable from 0 to 1000 ms, letting users create anything from instant to gradual filter sweeps. Both resonance and cutoff can be dialed in precisely for nuanced control, with the output level adjustable from -12 to +9 dB, so it can fit comfortably into any signal chain.

The Knife Drop also includes five presets with varied tonal characteristics designed by Jack White, named Knife Drop, Dub Drop, Chainsaw, Hard Bounce, and Obsidian. For those needing more presets, MIDI integration offers access to additional slots (6–127) and control over the pedal’s main parameters.

Expression

An external expression pedal can be assigned to any of the main parameters, giving added real-time control. With mono or stereo input capability and options for line or guitar input, Knife Drop can handle a wide variety of setups.

Availability

The Knife Drop pedal is available in two color options: the standard black edition and a limited-edition yellow version, which can be found exclusively on the Third Man Hardware Reverb storefront. The pedal can also be preordered on Third Man Records’ website and through Eventide’s authorized distributors worldwide.
