Keeping your Line 6 Helix device updated ensures optimal performance and access to the latest features. This guide will walk you through the update process while ensuring your presets and settings are protected.

Step 1: Prepare for the Firmware Update
What You’ll Need:
HX Edit Software: For managing and backing up your Helix content.
USB Cable: To connect your Helix to your computer.
Line 6 Downloads Page Access: For the latest software updates.
Step 2: Download and Install HX Edit
Go to the Line 6 Downloads page.
Select HX Edit and choose your operating system.

Install the software:
On Windows: Run the .exe file.
On macOS: Open the .dmg file, then the .pkg installer.
Connect Your Device
Use a USB cable to connect your Helix to your computer and power it on.
Open HX Edit. If the device isn’t recognized, try a different USB port or cable.
Create a Backup (Optional)
Backup Handling: Backups are typically automated during updates via HX Updater, but it’s a good habit to create manual backups.
In HX Edit, navigate to File > Create Backup… and save the backup file to a secure location.

Step 3: Update the Firmware
Make sure HX Edit is installed and up to date. Update it if necessary.
Open Line 6 Updater (The Line 6 Updater app comes with HX Edit. If installed, you already have it.) and log in with your Line 6 account credentials.
Select your Helix device and choose the latest firmware version.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
After the update, your Helix will restart and rebuild presets (this may take a few minutes).
Pro Tip: Check Your settings
Check critical settings and make sure everything work correctly, sometimes updating firmware may reset specific settings, such as:
MIDI configurations
Layout preferences (Snapshot vs. Preset Mode)
Up/Down switch behaviors
