Spectral Dynamics Mode
One of the standout features of Pro-Q 4 is the new Spectral Dynamics mode, which extends the dynamic EQ functionality introduced in Pro-Q 3. Spectral Dynamics allows users to apply expansion or compression selectively to frequencies within a specified band. This means problematic frequencies can be dynamically controlled without affecting the rest of the spectrum. This feature, typically found in dedicated plugins, is now seamlessly integrated into the Pro-Q 4 interface, making it a powerful tool for de-essing, resonance control, and fine-tuning mixes.
EQ Sketch
Pro-Q 4 introduces EQ Sketch, an innovative feature that lets users draw EQ curves directly onto the interface. This tool is perfect for quickly shaping the tonal balance of a track, providing an intuitive starting point for further refinements. Simply drag the mouse across the display to create filters, with slopes determined by the steepness of the gesture. While not a precision tool, EQ Sketch is ideal for brainstorming ideas and accelerating the initial stages of EQ design.
Character Modes
For the first time in the Pro-Q series, Character Modes have been introduced, adding analog-style saturation. Three modes are available:
Clean: Transparent and uncolored, retaining Pro-Q’s original sound.
Subtle: gentle, warmth-style saturation.
Warm: Tube-like saturation.

Instance List: Unified Control Across Sessions
Managing multiple instances of Pro-Q has never been easier. The Instance List offers a centralized overview of all active Pro-Q 4 instances in a project. From a compact display of miniaturized spectrums to a fully interactive view where EQ curves can be edited in real-time, this feature streamlines workflow for complex sessions. Users can quickly navigate between instances using the search, filter, and quick-jump functionalities. For added convenience, the Instance List supports EQ Sketch and offers a Minimap for intuitive navigation.
Dynamic and Enhanced Workflow
Building on the dynamic EQ capabilities of its predecessor, Pro-Q 4 introduces Attack and Release controls for greater precision in dynamic processing. Users can tailor the response of individual bands, allowing for more nuanced control over transient shaping and tonal balance.
Another notable improvement is the ability to copy and paste EQ curves between instances, streamlining multi-instance workflows. This is especially useful in collaborative or large-scale projects where consistency across tracks is essential.
A New Interface and Filters
Pro-Q 4 boasts a redesigned graphical user interface, now with GPU acceleration and resizable options. The flat design aesthetic feels modern and uncluttered, ensuring an intuitive user experience despite the addition of numerous new features.
Additional filter options include fractional filter slopes, allowing for precise control over filter shapes, and an All-Pass filter type, enabling phase manipulation directly within the plugin. These updates make Pro-Q 4 even more versatile, catering to both creative and technical applications.
Improved Spectrum Analyzer and Surround Support
The already powerful spectrum analyzer has been enhanced with better analog matching in Zero Latency and Natural Phase modes, as well as improved precision in Linear Phase processing. Pro-Q 4 supports surround formats up to Dolby Atmos 9.1.6, with flexible channel linking and per-band stereo placement options.
