In December, we talked about the release of FabFilter Pro-Q 4 (read here), which added some strong new features to the popular equalizer plugin. Now, FabFilter has released an update to version 4.02, which includes several improvements and fixes. Here’s a quick look at what’s new.

Key Features in Pro-Q 4.02
A new Spectral Tilt option has been introduced for each band. When enabled, it tilts the input spectrum by 3 dB per octave before triggering spectral dynamics, making higher frequencies influence dynamics more than lower ones for a more natural sound.
In Linear Phase mode, the Character Mode now also supports linear-phase oversampling.
Copying and pasting bands within the same instance now adds a slight frequency offset to pasted bands to help differentiate them.
If a DAW doesn’t report track indices (like Pro Tools or Logic Pro), the instance list is now sorted by track names more intuitively, ensuring “Track 2” appears before “Track 10”.
The instance list now only displays instances from the same project in DAWs that provide this information.
All Pass filters now appear bypassed in Linear Phase mode, as they have no effect in this mode.
Fixed a bug that caused a temporary DC offset when adjusting the slope of a Low Cut filter at very low values.
Resolved a rare crash issue when enabling Spectral mode for a band.
Fixed a problem that caused audible artifacts when changing gain or dynamic range of an EQ curve during active dynamics.
Corrected a bug where dragging the EQ Sketch button could result in area selection instead of drawing an EQ curve.
Fixed an issue where using Alt+Shift+click on EQ curves to toggle slopes could skip certain settings or ignore fast clicks.
Resolved a problem that could abruptly cut off the output when stopping playback in some DAWs with ringing, resonant filters.
Factory presets have been improved with additional metadata and minor adjustments.
Various minor bug fixes and general improvements.
The 4.02 update is free for existing Pro-Q 4 users.
If you already own Pro-Q 4, check out our video “Mixing a Song with ONLY One FabFilter PRO Q 4”, where we took on the crazy challenge of mixing a jazz track using only one plugin from FabFilter!
To make the transition from Pro-Q 3 to Pro-Q 4 easier, FabFilter has released an update for Pro-Q 3 (version 3.27), allowing settings to be copied between versions.
Now Pro-Q 4 is also available as an AUv3 plugin for iPad, bringing features like EQ Sketch and the instance list to mobile users.
