5 Useful Tips for the U-he Diva VST Plugin

Updated: Jul 24

What is U-he Diva VST?

U-he Diva, short for “Dinosaur Impersonating Virtual Analogue,” is a virtual synthesizer developed by Urs Heckmann’s Berlin-based software company, U-he. Launched in 2011, Diva has become renowned for its exceptional emulation of classic analog synthesizers. By meticulously modeling the circuits and behaviors of iconic hardware synths, Diva captures the essence of analog sound in a digital format.

1. Use LFO to Expand Your Sound

LFO

Assign various parameters to the LFO (Low-Frequency Oscillator) and modulate them. This technique allows you to create diverse and intriguing sounds, adding depth and complexity to your music.

2. Experiment with Modifications

Modifications

Utilize the Invert, Multiply, and Add sections to manipulate your sounds:

Invert: Reverse values to achieve unique effects.

Multiply: Adjust parameters to create dynamic variations.

Add: Control two values simultaneously for richer sound textures.

3. Create Natural Drive with Distortion Rotary

Rotary

Achieve a natural drive effect using the distortion rotary. Set the stereo, risetime, and slow knobs to 0%, then increase the mix and drive knobs. This method will give you a compelling distortion effect without overwhelming the sound.

4. Assign LFO to Cutoff

Cutoff

Improve your sound design by assigning an LFO knob to the cutoff parameters. This technique produces a natural tremolo effect, adding movement and vibrancy to your music.

5. Unlock Incredible Reverb

Reverb

To achieve a stunning reverb effect, set the wet and size knobs to around 80%, and the dry knob to approximately 15%. This configuration works exceptionally well for pad sounds, providing a spacious and ambient feel.
